Bee pollen is a real super deal, because it basically contains everything you need. It has both the macronutrients, meaning carbohydrates, fat and proteins, and micronutrients like vitamins (16 different), antioxidants and minerals (27 different). It is a mix of everything.
Studies have shown that bee pollen strenghtens the immune system, which in turn can prevent the regular bacteria we are becoming resistant against, such as staphylococci and streptococci. Charlotte Erlanson-Albertsson, Professor in Medical and Physiological Chemistry at Lund University, believes that the small ”grain” can be the future, when antibiotics are no longer working. She recommends eating a small amount every day as a precaution with your yoghurt, with fresh fruit or in your smoothie.
-Pollen is very concentrated, so you should not take too much of it. Start of gently with a ¼ teaspoon to see how your body reacts. Then gradually increase the amount to 1-3 teaspoons per day.
The protein content can be as high as 35 %. 100 grams of pollen can contain as much protein as seven eggs or 1.5 kilos of beef.
Depending on what flowers the bees have visited, the pollen has different colour and the quantity depends on the weather. The more different kinds of flower pollen there are, the more complete the energy content is.
